Ancestors of Athens County: Treasures from First Families

Connect to what Athens County's ancestors treasured by discovering objects in both the changing exhibit and the permanent exhibit space. You might be surprised to learn what was valuable to our pioneer settlers.

Athens County's Attic to the Nation's Attic

The Smithsonian Institute has been called "The Nation's Attic" for its role in keeping and conserving our national treasures. A look at the ACHS&M's object storage area conjures up images of this great American institution, but on a local scale.

Our collection numbers more than 40,000 objects.  Our mission is to preserve and interpret these three dimensional memories.

In a nod to treasures collected, protected and interpreted, we offer this link to the Smithsonian Institution's History and Culture page.
